A bit about me
Why it Matters to Me
Life is volatile. Loss is inevitable. Suffering is part of being human. In the midst of coming out of burnout, my only brother unexpectedly died. The loss of his big presence shook me, changing the way I moved through my family, my memories, and even my sense self. Slowly, I began choosing to stay present with the unpredictable waves of grief and the open spaces my brother once filled. In doing so, I have begun to experience moments of comfort and self-compassion with lungs that are expanding and welcoming in deeper breaths again.
"It's only by allowing yourself to feel the grief of pain that you then get to feel [joy] inside you.” ~Cooper Anderson
In the beginning
My path toward counseling unfolded slowly. Through my years in teaching and corporate work, a quiet thread began to reveal itself; a pull toward healing and being present in my life. As the pace of corporate work grew heavier, I noticed how often I was giving more than I allowed myself to receive. Burnout became an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to ask myself what truly mattered and was this the way I wanted to continue living.
Slowing down became a gift. As I listened, I began noticing the adaptations that once protected me were no longer serving me. With curiosity and self-compassion, I started moving toward a deeper sense of belonging to myself. It began with feeling more at home in my own body and in the world, rather than constantly trying to earn my place. Trusting my own experience and meeting my thoughts and emotions with curiosity instead of criticism was hard work. I found myself showing up with greater presence, clearer boundaries, and more authenticity. Belonging is becoming less about fitting in and more about allowing myself to show up as I am.
